Day 1 Beijing – Datong by train
Pick you up from hotel in Beijing and transfer to train station (without guide) for overnight train to Datong with soft sleeper. Train 2602/2603 Beijing 23:42 – Datong 06:01+1.

Day 2 Datong B.L
You will be met by our local tour guide at Datong Railway Station and have breakfast first.  Head to the 1400 years old Hanging Temple. It is well-known worldwide because it is built on the steep cliff, more than 75 meters above the ground. It was ranked by the “Time” magazine in 2010 as the world’s top ten most odd dangerous buildings in the world. Continue your trip to Huayan Temple, the largest and best preserved temple of the Liao (916-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties in China. After lunch move on to Shanhua Monastery, the temple was originally built during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907).  Afterwards, take a look at Nine Dragon Screen. It was built for the Prince Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) and is three times larger than the one in Forbidden City. Stay overnight in hotel in Datong.

Day 3 Datong – Taiyuan B.L
After breakfast, Start your tour today by visiting UNESCO Yungang Grottoes, one of the largest ancient rock-cut grotto groups in China. Yugang Grottoes boasts 252 caves, with 51,000 statues and carvings of Buddha, Most of which were created in the 5th and 6th centuries AD.  Then take train to Taiyuan (Train K891 Datong 12:00 – Taiyuan 15:50) with soft sleeper ticket. Pick you up from train station and visit Jinci Temple. The temple is a historic relic featuring gardening art, carving art and stele stones art. Inside the temple the figures of Song Dynasty maid servants, the Zhou Dynasty Cypress and the “Never Aging Spring” (Nanlao Fountain) are the three wonders of Jinci Temple. Stay overnight in Taiyuan.

Day 4 Taiyuan- Pingyao – Beijing B.L
Today pay a visit to the Ancient Pingyao City. Though today being only a tiny spot on the map, Pingyao was the financial center of China from the 17th to 19th century. Inside the ancient city large banks, exchange houses and grand residences are still extant in their original condition today. Then take a ride to Taiyuan. Visit magnificent Qiao Family Mansion. It was the residence of the famous Shanxi Merchant, Qiao Zhiyong. The compound rose to fame for being the setting of the film, “Raise the Red Lantern” starring actress Gong Li. Afterwards, transfer to Taiyuan train station to take bullet train economic tickets to Beijing by train G614 Taiyuan 18:32 – Beijing 21:40. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Beijing (without guide). End of the tour.
